I just finished listening to an audio book 《The Perfect Couple》written by Elin Hilderbrand. I am very impressed that I could borrow a book so new and this good in the library without being on a long waiting list.
It was a story about a young girl, Celez, from New York who was going to marry a handsome young man, Ben, from a very wealthy family that many girls would dream of marring . They were engaged and set to get married on the weekend right after the July 4th weekend at Ben's parents' beach house at the beautiful Nantucket Island. And just when everything sounded so nice and rosy, the maid of honor, Marriatt, was found floating face down in the ocean near their house on the morning their wedding day. She was the only close friend of Celez.
The author was a master in story telling. Through the development of the story line, the author described several vivid characters that showed rather sophisticate facets human behavior that affected by love, desire and compassion. And as a woman writer, I noticed how the author described certain male characters in a sexy and attractive way in details. And in the end of the book, the story was so tender and powerful that I was even sympathetic to the beautiful maid of honer, Marriatt, who had been having an extramarital affair with Ben's father for a love she tried so hard to seek and how that resulted in her terrible tragedy. I was so moved that I got goosebumps after I finished the book.
It was interesting to note that on one quote from a character in the story: " Of course she's a liar. Writers are all liars. They made up stories for a living." Aren't they are. I wish I could say "Aren't We are." Because I wish to be one. Not to lie, but just make up stories and publish.
