妈妈正抚着我的额角悲啼，猛然一声炮响，把我从梦中惊起。
My mother was caressing my forehead, crying sadly when suddenly a cannon went off, which startled me from my dream.
妈妈呀，您刚才为什么这样悲啼？莫不是您在风烛残年的寒夜里，切念着天涯漂泊的儿子？
Oh Mom, why were you crying so sadly just now? Was it that you were missing your wandering son afar, in the cold night of your twilight years?
儿子现在正卧在积雪的战场，饱尝艰苦的滋味。衣着单薄，腹内苦饥。
Your son is now lying in the snowy battlefield, living an extremely hard life. I am poorly dressed, suffering from hungry.
朔风吹冻了儿子的热血，积雪湿透了儿子的征衣。
The north wind has frozen your son's blood, and the snow has drenched his army uniform.
儿子现在能看到的，是明灭的灯火，飘荡的旌旗，树稍月冷，天上星稀。
What your son can see now are flickering lights , fluttering banners, a cold moon hanging above trees and sparse stars in the sky.
儿子现在能听到的，是枪声断续，战马嘶鸣，寒村的犬吠鸡鸣。但不知明夜此身又在何处?
What your son can hear now are intermittent gunshots, neighing horses, barking dogs and crowing roosters in the cold village. But I don’t know where I will be tomorrow night?
谁不梦想着骨肉的团聚？谁不留恋着家庭的甜蜜？
Who doesn’t dream of the reunion of family members? Who doesn’t miss the sweetness of the family?
就是这遍地的荆棘，挂住了我心头的万缕归思。
It is the thorns all over the land that snag my infinite thoughts of returning.
现在要实现小我的理想，必须补好大地的创伤。
Now in order to realize my personal ideal, I must mend the wounds of the earth.
看啊，这原野上许多僵硬的遗体，哪一个不是他妈妈的爱儿？
Look, there are so many stiff bodies in the open country, which one is not his mother's beloved son?
