I'm reading the book《The Right Time》. It was written by Danielle Steel. So far I have read about a third of the book. I have to say that it was truly a masterpiece.
Not only the story was intriguing, but also I think I can learn from it. Because there were a lot of stories involves how to write a novel. Also, there were so many details about come up with a storyline, how to find an agent, work with an editor and book publishers.
It was a story about a young girl, Alex, lost her mother at the age of nine. She lived with her father who was a successful businessman and who was also a big fan of murder mystery novels.
The two of them read books together every night. Under the father's influence, the young girl started writing short stories she was only 11 years old. At the time when she was 14, she wrote many stories that filled up three big binders.
Her stories were so well written and scary at her school teacher thought she was a very disturbed child. It was very unfortunate for her that her father passed away when she was 14 years old and she has to be sent to a convent to live with 26 nuns.
But she was treated with a lot of love and care in the facility. All she wanted was to continue to write and go to school. By the age of 19, she finished her first murder mystery book. And with other people's help, she found a big time agent who had very sharp eyes can recognize true talent.
The agent found her a retired Harvard professor to help her editing her book. They successfully published her book a year after. And by that time she had finished her second book which was even more highly praised by her agent.
It was interesting that she insisted to use the pen name of a man because she believed male readers would not like her work if they knew she was just a young girl.
The key point I learned from this is, to be a writer you have to have a burning desire to tell a story. It doesn't matter whether you can publish your work. You have to keep working hard without any distraction.
As I continue to read the book, I'll update with more details of the book.
