I don't know where my daughter picked up the phrase “silly old mommy”. But i can see that she likes to use it a lot, and it gives her a good feeling of saying it.
Right before dinner, she insisted in finishing the picture book <playing with the lanterns>. Unexpectedly, she pricked her finger at my forehead, and said silly old mommy merrily. I wasn't vexed but amused, and called her back silly baby.
I thought she knew what she was saying. To my surprise, she asked, "What is silly , mommy?"
"Well, you are just silly, honey."
And then she bursted into laughter.
It happened before. We were driving to her kindergarten, abruptly, she said "i'm sad." I was surprised, and asked why she was sad. She started very well with the "because.....". When she finished, she popped up innocently, "what is sad, mommy?"
I explained to her.
I knew she learned from her class how to express feelings. She liked to drill with me. Whenever she was saying something she learned or picked up somewhere, and she didn't know what it means, i think that's interesting and refreshing.
It also reminds me that we've got to be careful with our words when she's around.
Well, she may sound silly, but she's not a silly little girl.
This is a try of vocal inputting in english, and i find it fairly accurate.
