中国大陆以外的场合，也有人在表达时注意区分龙和dragon。上个世纪九十年代曾经火遍经济学界的概念“亚洲四小龙”，英文表述就是“four tigers”而不是“four dragons”。在龙的英文表达问题上我们似乎可以更讲究一些区分。
这个区分也有现成的例子可以借鉴。龙的英文音译叫loong，新加坡总理李显龙就叫Lee
Hsien Loong，美国功夫巨星李小龙则叫Bruce Lee Siu Loong，loong作为龙的英文是没有问题的，至少比dragon少了许多误解。
不过dragon能用到今天，也已经成为了英文的一项传统。其实这两个翻译用哪个不是特别重要，重要的是把区别解释清楚，尽量减少翻译过程中的误解。
The Western concept of dragon is not consistent with that of the Chinese dragon. If you want to express ideas related to the Chinese dragon, then you should use the word "loong".For example: "I was born in the year of theloong"or "Happy the Year of theLoong".
