    word and expression

take your place among the best in the world.

    place

[sing.] ~ (in sth) the role or importance of sb / sth in a particular situation, usually in relation to others

    • 身分;地位;资格:

»He is assured of his place in history.

    他相信自己一定会在历史上占有一席之地。

    take one's place

to take or accept the status in society that is correct or that you deserve

    • 得到应有的社会地位;名副其实

仿:Exercise takes second place to diet.

As with the disparity between Renée and Steve, the key difference between Steve’s performance and that of the new generation of memory whizzes lies in the details of their training.

    disparity

(formal) a difference, especially six connected with unfair treatment

    • (尤指因不公正对待引起的)不同,不等,差异,悬殊:

仿:What makes the wide disparity between rich and poor ?

If you don’t know for sure what constitutes improvement, how can you develop methods to improve performance?

    constitute

    1. linking verb

    • [V-N] (not used in the progressive tenses 不用于进行时) to be considered to be sth

    • (被认为或看作)是;被算作:

»Does such an activity constitute a criminal offence?

    难道这样的活动也算刑事犯罪吗?

    2. linking verb

    • [V-N] (not used in the progressive tenses 不用于进行时) to be the parts that together form sth

    • 组成;构成

    【SYN】 make up :

»Female workers constitute the majority of the labour force.

    女性雇员占劳动力的多数。

First, there are always objective ways—such as the win/loss of a chess competition or a head-to-head race—or at least semiobjective ways—such as evaluation by expert judges—to measure performance.

    head-to-head

    adj. [only before noun]

    • in which two people or groups face each other directly in order to decide the result of a disagreement or competition

    • 正面交锋的;面对面的:

    仿:They decided to have a head-to-head contest.

    note补充:

    对比traits,deliberate practice就是比purposeful practice多了达到一定水平的传授者心理表征?核心就是,DP知道how to do that,别人(一定水平的传授者)know how,自己(通过心理表征)know how 。
