As a consequence of rapid social development, the role of jobs seems to have changed and there is a debate as to whether people should pick a temporary job to get more time on doing what they are interested in or pick a fulltime job to get more chance on career development and a pay rise. From my perspective, although interim jobs are fascinating due to better work life balance, people will get more advantages by choosing full-time jobs.
To start with, part-time jobs often give rise to less competitiveness in workplace. Firstly, employers are more likely to hire a stable employee who is able to solve the problems at any time without worrying about his absence in future. Furthermore, a plenty of company offer an induction training for new employees, which makes them to be competent for a job. If they only plan to work for several months, they will have less time to do productive work.
In addition, people having a temporary job tend to meet more difficulties and pressure on wealth when they are in holiday. There are usually two sources of economic stress. One is from the loan and bills they have to pay monthly. For example, if you use loan to buy a house, you need to pay a fixed ratio of housing price every month. The other is from the risk of failing to find the new job when needing money. Just imagine how suffering they will be when a family member in hospital needs more money to do a treatment.
However, there also exists some positive points about choosing a lifestyle which only work for a few months in a year. People can have enough time to conduct their personal plan and enjoy their life. For example, they can spend more time staying with their family members which can strengthen family ties; and going travelling can also not only broaden their horizons but also fill them with happiness.
In conclusion, although a temporary job brings a better work-life balance, the disadvantages including more financial burden and less career competence can not be ignored.
