1. belt out
There are two meaning of this phrase:
a. leave quickly
e.g. The car belted out of the square.
b. performance in passionate way
e.g. Rosie really knows how to belt out a song.
2. emerge from
reveal
e.g. The moon emerged from behind the clouds.
3. lean towards
If you lean towards or lean toward a particular idea, belief, or type of behaviour, you have a tendancy to think or act in a particular way.
e.g. A government that leans toward fascism.
4. riddle with
to fill someone or something with small holes,such as bullet holes.
The door of the fort was riddled with bullets.
5. eat away
rot, corrode
For eons, the pounding waves ate away at the shoreline.
6. encroach on
intrude on(property,etc.);go beyond what is right or natural or desirable
e.g. We will never allow anybody to encroach upon China'sterritorial integrity and sovereignty
7. fuss
fuss is anxious or excited behaviour which serves no useful purpose.
e.g. He just gets down to work without any fuss.
8. inextricable
If there is inextricable link between things, they cannot be considered separately.
e.g. Art and life are inextricable.
9. egg on
It may come from when clowns are at circus and they have eggs thrown at them because of their goofy acts or when acts or when actors had egg thrown at them performing in play a couple of centuries ago.
e.g. If you do that, you'll end up with egg on your face.
