具体来说，名词性从句一般可以：
- 作主语（从句放在主语位置，此时为主语从句）
That he is afraid of chickens is unbelievable (令人难以置信).
- 作宾语（从句放在宾语位置）
We don't believe that he is afraid of chickens.
- 作表语（从句放在表语位置，也就是be动词后面）
The fact is that he is afraid of chickens.
- 作同位语
The fact that he is afraid of chickens is unbelievable.
细心的大侠们可能发现了，句子1和4很相似，只是句子4多了the fact两个单词。其实这里隐藏了一个很关键的点：
✱ 同位语从句起补充说明作用，它属于附加成分。即便去掉同位语从句，句子本身也结构完整。
