比如hands down和get something going on
to get the lay/lie of the land. to find out the details of a situation or problem. e.g. "I'm not sure what's going to happen. That's why I'm coming in early. I want to get the lay of the land."
to have a few laughs: to laugh, to have fun, to enjoy oneself. We had a few laughs together. We always have great fun when we're together.
along the way: During some event or timeframe. e.g. 1. I had known Liz for years, but somewhere along the way in college, we fell in love. 2. Along the way, my son's illness was misdiagnosed, and now he's very sick.
shall we? "Should we now proceed? If you are in a situation where a group is gathering to do something (go out for lunch, start a meeting, etc.), “Shall we?" would mean something like "Are we now all ready and is it now time to proceed with what we are here for?". (Or more simply, "Should we now proceed?", but that explains "shall" in terms of "should".) e.g. ok guys we got a go (and you tell to you friend) shall we? (ready to go?)
