Traditionally, many of these are in people’s homes, a bit like Christmas dinner, but with a lot of socializing goes on during the Spring Festival.

Now as a result, the demand of restaurants right across Chinese cities is huge, and street venders in Beijing are no exception. They are doing a roaring trade.

do a roaring trade (or business) : sell large amounts of something; do very good business. informal

This is Wan Fujing Market, you can get any delicacy you want, from silk worms to scorpions.

Oh, just send … centipedes and spiders, lovely. There's something that jumps.

I’m not entirely sure whether I would prefer, just like a prone prawn.

prawn: 对虾

What’s your prone a prwan? A cockroach of the sea. A cockroach of the set with a fancy suit on.

Whatever floats you boat, it is here.

This means whatever turns you on, interests you, suits you, something you like, your preference or choice

e.g. Q. 'Would you like to go skiing?' A. 'Whatever floats your boat' (your choice or preference) ----from www.urbandictionary.com

Because you know what, it’s new year your home to your family are near going to have a lovely time.

To be fair, aren’t all these foods are for special occasion? occasions. You know, I’m just wondering what the Chinese equivalent is to say, you know, like a bag of crisps.

It's foolish to say that.

I just popped out to the Chinese news agents and got us a few snacks.

Have a crack of this one. I quite like it. What is it? That's dried squid. It’s nice and savory, is it all right? is it all right.

dried squid: 鱿鱼丝

Guess what this is, man? Oh yeah, chicken feet. Bingo! Got it in the one.

idiom: If someone guesses something and you say got it in one or you've got it in one, you mean that they haveguessed correctly.

Now this one I’m really rather fond of. This is meat floss, also known as hot strip. It’s popular proper name is Latiao. And Latiao is the most popular snack for under 25s in China. And the market world **is worth ** an estimated 15 billion Yuan per year.

Wow that’s a lot of hot strip.
