I believe most of people who are interested in languages learning have heard of or even read the novel Out of Africa. It's a novel on the ground of Africa and been shot to movie with great applause. Myself is a big fan of both the book and movie. Sometimes when I was a university student I dreamed of myself also having an experience like that, which might be the root of my coming to Pakistan, who knows ?
Pakistan is really different from what portrayed in the media, media of all the world.
Terrorism is the symbol of Pakistan, but it's not true. Like US, people here are allowed to possess guns by obtaining a license, but foreigners are not allowed. Chinese people is forbidden to possess guns (in China we call those people "illegally possessing weapons"), so most Chinese people are quite enthusiastic or even passionate to get a gun. The picture matches a saying the more depressed the more rebellious.
Most of the households will have guns or some even have safeguards. Our neighbor is a private school and it has at least 4 safeguards all equipped with guns. But they are all for self defense, seldom can we see people shooting randomly. And I haven't seen any shooting during my short life here till now.
From time to time, I am wondering why the outside media portray Pakistan in a terrorist way, and what's more unbelievable is most of us believe the media. We are taught to have judgment, to tell the black from right, to have our own opinion, but it turns out all in a failure. No one have his own judgment no matter how wise and experimental his or she is. All people are blind for sometime in some point at some places. For the media, as I was taught they are the voice of the power-holder, which I doubted sometimes because I did believe there might still have some media people who are meant to tell the truth, turns out too high expectation for them. Money or power always speaks louder.
