You need a strong reason. It will give you a power when you tired.

The Reason should be specific and clear enough:
taking learning English as example, I have 4 reasons to learn English.

1. Watch a movie without subtitle
2. Traveling and Known Another culture
3. Communication with the working partner
4. Read original technology document and video.

Keep Flow

When you read or you watch a movie, don’t stop too much. Force the next word.
It will make you think quickly and understand the important points.
It is good to understand the important points rather than focus on small details.

Attention

Your brain is very smart, it knowns whether is import or not.
sometimes we feel it boring because our brain doesn’t know how to connect with our real life.
Imaging when we meet trigger, our body we really very quick, because if we don’t do it. We will die.

so, the key is to make a relationship with your care about and what you do.
I think that is more effective to learn.

in my case, it mostly uses imagination:
try to imagine that I am staying in an unfamiliar environment.
try to imagine I'm in danger.
try to imagine I have a chance to get million money.

It very simple, try to pretend you're the movie star.

it can reduce the number of words to remember. and every word has some relationship with you, so you can easy to remember.

Talk to your self

talk to yourself can improve your thinking with English.

The environment

I have two story
first, I hear some people live in a pure English environment for a few months, and they can speak English. I believe in that.

second, when I was a child, our school is only used Cantonese to the convention

Why?
Your brain is a very smart device. If you can use Chinese
