HR在企业主要负责人员招聘、员工培训、绩效管理、员工关系维护等，影响到公司的整体发展。

英国不少大学的商科都开设有人力资源这个专业，大致分为两个方向：人力资源管理(Human Resource Management)和国际人力资源管理(International Human Resource Management)。

相较而言，人力资源管理专业的实际操作性较强，课程能够让同学接触到人力资源领域涉及的方方面面问题;而国际人力资源管理专业则注重宏观战略和全球人力资源问题。

人力资源管理专业还分为三大类：Human Resource Management(HRM)，Human Resource Development(HRD)，Human Resource Organisation(HRO)。
