It is astonishing that the 3D printing technology is developing so fast, even in the field of architecture.  I've ever read the news that one of Chinese Company have built 10 one-story houses with a single day, that's cheaper, quicker and safer alternative to traditional constructions.

3D Printing Houses. Speed: 10 houses per day.

Honestly I can't believe this could have ever happened, this really is a big leap for buildings. Think about the possibilities this has brought to us. Maybe during the rescue or the reconstruction after a great earthquake, 3D printing houses could save thousands of lives. The technology can be used to substitute most of the hard works of human, which is exactly what we have been asked for. No doubt, human are lazy.

But when comes to the architecture, we don't only value the speed of construction, do we? Think about the earthquake example above again, fast-built houses do help during the emergency, however after that period of time, I think people will still prefer traditional houses with more local features. This issue, what designers and architectures specially concern of, isn't HARD WORK, but SMART WORK.

The Variety  of Architectures in China.

My point is that as a designer or an architect, we should always be clear that what do we want to achieve and keep up with the new technologies. In most of the projects, both hard work and smart work will be involved. Focusing more on the smart point can help us hit on the nail directly and machines can do better hard work in a short time. The proportion of works may differ from various kinds of projects, and we need to adjust all the time.

Technologies are always changing, designers are evergreen.
