今天和Annie谈论的是English teaching method。我平时对于英语文章的处理,无外乎从words, phrases和sentences三方面着手,简称WPS, 我想咨询Annie除了这三方面,还可以怎么处理一篇英语文章:
“I usually deal with an English passage in WPS way. How about you? How do you usually deal with an English passage and the best use of it?”

Annie 的答案更关注于学生与文本的互动。“interactive perspective” “actively engage with the passage”。这两种方法分别为,“read the passage aloud and discuss it as a group”和“apply what they learn from the passage”, 在介绍两种方法时,她都用了定语从句,“One technique I found helpful is…” “Another approach I like to use is…”。介绍这两种方法的模式,都是先介绍方法,再论述这种方法的好处。
Annie 的想法很棒,但是这些活动不太适合我学生的英语水平。我的学生英语学习最大的障碍还停留在认字识句的阶段,更别提表达自己的观点和想法了:
“Your approach is a good idea. But what you do is too advanced for our students. Sometimes they don’t even know the meaning of the words, let alone making sentences and expressing their ideas. So your approach is too difficult for them to do. What’s your idea?”

Annie先是表达对我的感受的理解,再是肯定了我的做法“a solid foundation for students with lower knowledge or proficiency levels”,接着她提出可以把两种方法结合起来,“start by… Once… you can”。
在造句的时候,Annie喜欢用doing做主语“Starting with…is a …” “combining both approaches can be…”。
我可以借鉴的短语,“where sb is coming from” 明白某人是怎么想的。“adapt… to suit the level and needs of an” 修改…使适应…“have a good grasp of”对…掌握得很好。
