Culture,as the late British writer Raymond Williams wrote, is one of the two or three most complicated words in the English language, which is almost ambiguous as love. Hence, though reluctant, I will try to expound it by means of necessary rhetorical devices. Two main perspectives will be listed as follows.
Metaphorical perspective. Out of its obscurity and lack of the certain signified, it would come into play with the help of language, mostly metaphors. Here is the dominant one: culture is a learnable, coherent and dynamic conceptual system with its external form as value system, which, directs our thoughts, behaviors and other inexplicable tendencies.
Specific concepts, as the origin of our attitudes and thoughts in life, constitute all together the building of ideology—how we understand this world, what is viewed as valuable and what is not, etc., and thereupon govern our behaviors—what should we do to this world, what should we do to acquire those values. And people approving the same concept belong to this culture group. To cite an example, people agreeing with individualism, the belief that people should have the greatest possible personal freedom will be identified as the member of the culture of individualism; people, on the contrary, as the member of collectivism if reach the consensus that all individuals make a unified one and make contributions to develop it.
