The current situation of China's road traffic safety can be described by three characteristics: the total number of traffic accidents is huge, the mortality rate is high, the fatal accidents are more frequent. Large and small traffic accidents are common, resulting in incalculable losses.
China's ministry of public security traffic management science institute, chang-jun wang said: "our country each year the number of road traffic injuries in about 20 more than, but all over the country each year the amount of traffic police notified accident probably at around 4.7 million, huge total accidents.
Secondly, mortality is high. The number of people killed in our country's traffic accidents accounts for about 21 percent of deaths and traffic accidents, and Japan is about 1/200 of ours, and it's 0.54 percent. The third feature is that malignant accidents occur frequently. In 2012, there were 25 major accidents involving more than 10 deaths nationwide.
In China, seat belt use is currently only about 22 per cent, and a safety belt can reduce the potential death rate by 10 per cent.
More people are driving, and traffic accidents are inevitable. The world health organization says it expects future road traffic accidents to be the seventh-largest cause of death in the world if action is not sustained.
