Chapter 1
The story began at World War II. The four children retreated away from London since the air-raids began. They were sent into an old professor's house, which was really an enormous one with a big wardrobe in it. But the children---- Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy didn't know that the wardrobe was the entrance to a mysterious world called Narnia. When the children were exploring the Professor's house, the youngest child Lucy, was inquisitive with the wardrobe. She got through the wardrobe and entered a world, a frozen land, where she met a Faun named Mr. Tumnus.
Chapter 2
They came to Mr. Tumnus's home and had some tea. He told she that Narnia was land in eternal winter, where was no spring, no Chrismas. The ruler was the White Witch, an antagonist who slaved the world and made up a spell. She was able to turn a creature to a stone statue. All in all, the world was waiting to be set free.
After that, he exclaimed that the Witch ordered him to catch the Daughter of Eve(what they called a human girl) back to her castle. But he still let her go back to the real world because of his kind.
Chapter 3
Lucy ran out, wondering whether her siblings would look for her all over the complicated house when they found she disappeared. But when she told them her adventure in Narnia, to her surprise, no one believed her. She'd been away for hours yet the other children said she'd just gone for a minute. What a batty thing! It seemed that Narnia had a separate time of its own. So that everyone thought she was making up jokes. They sneered and jeered at her and want her to drop her 'joke'. But Lucy was a truthful girl, who hardly told lies.So for the next few days, Lucy couldn't make it up with the others or take part in their activities. She was miserable.
The second child entered Narnia by accident was Edmund while the children were playing hide-and-seek. Lucy went into the wardrobe, trying to make others notice that wardrobe. After her, Edmund got in as well, but who did not mean to enter the world that Lucy had told them, but in order to prove the wardrobe was solid ordinary one, all of this was a hoax and he could go on teasing Lucy.
He got deeper and deeper.Suddenly he found himself in a frozen world. The snow was lying on the prickly branches. The ground was covered with crisp snow. It was so freezing that he began to shiver. He found that Lucy was right. Then he heard a sound of bells that came nearer and nearer. A sledge which drawn by reindeer swept into sight. The reindeer were snow-white with gilded horns. On the sledge sat two persons, a woman and a dwarf. The women with a wand in her hand, and a golden crown on her head. The cruel and stern woman whose face was as white as snow looked just like a queen. She was the White Witch. And the dwarf was her slave.
Chapter 4
Edmund introduced himself, then the Witch let him sit on the sledge and tucked the mantle on round him. After that the Witch gave him something hot to drink when she found Edmund's teeth were chattering in the freezing winter, Edmund began to sip the hot drink, feeling warmer and better. Then the Witch gave him some Turkish Delight to eat, which was the food that Edmund had ever ate. He only wanted to eat as much as he could.
While he was eating the Witch asked him many questions such as how many siblings he'd got or if his sister had already came here. Edmund was enchanted by Turkish Delight that he told the Witch all the things he knew. Then the Witch let Edmund fetch his siblings to her castle and promised that if he would do this then she would make him to be a Prince and later a king, and also a lot of Turkish Delight for him as much as he wanted. It was obvious that the Witch was cheating him, but Edmund was so greedy that he really wanted much Turkish Delight to eat. He ought to make a choice. Eventually, Edmund promised to bring his siblings to Narnia soon.
Chapter 5
Edmund met Lucy, then they came back to the wardrobe room together. Lucy was glad that Edmund had got in Narnia as well as the others would believe in Narnia now. She told the others that Edmund had been in Narnia as well yet Edmund sniggered and said they were jusy assuming that Narnia was true. At that moment Lucy felt sulky and annoyed, running out with tears. What a nasty liar Edmund was!
Therefore, a good deal later they found Lucy had been still crying. They were worried about her, wondering whether she was mad. As a result, Peter and Susan intended to tell the whole thing to the Professor.
To their surprise, Professor considered this problem seriously. He said Lucy's story might be true. In general, there might be three possibilities----Lucy was right; Lucy was mad; There wasn't Narnia at all. It was obvious that Lucy wasn't mad. And Lucy was more reliable than Edmund. So for the moment they had to believe Lucy's story was true unless they found out more evidence.
Chapter 6
The Professor's house was so famous and mysterious in England that the housekeeper, called Mrs. Macready, always led a lot of curious sightseers to visit the house. Further more, she was not fond of children and didn't like anyone to interrupt her when she was guiding. Hence, when the children heard the sound of Mrs. Macready, they all bundled inside the wardrobe to hide.
After that, they found that there was world in the wardrobe indeed. Even Edmund got in too, though he made out Lucy had just told lies. Everyone got angry about this.
Then they intended to explore the world. Lucy got a plan to visit the Faun she had met before. But then they got a terrible surprise. They saw the Faun's pemises was destroyed by Maugrim, who was the Captain of the Secret Police controled by the White Witch. And now the Faun was arrested on Lucy's account because he had harbored Lucy and fraternized with humans. Therefore, the children decided to rescue him.
Chapter 7
They went deeper into the forest. At the moment they all suddenly realized they were lost.
While they were wondering what to do, a robin perched on a branch in their sight. And it seemed that the creatures in Narnia were able to understand what humans said. So they pleaded with the robin to lead them to the place where the poor and imprisoned Faun was.
The robin always flew near ahead of them and led them, on the same way down hill slightly, until they suddenly found he'd flown away in the dark forest. There they saw another creature, a beaver, signaling to them to be quiet as if he was afraid someone was spying on them. He glanced all round and saw nobody here, then beckoned to them, signaling to follow him earnestly. They had no choice so they did. The beaver took them to his house.
Chapter 8
They got to the Beaver’s house. It was a snug little home, where they intended to have dinner. Everyone even Edmund liked this arrangement because they were so hungry. In the house they met Mr. Beaver’s wife, a kind-looking she-beaver.
While they were having dinner, the Beavers began to talk about Mr. Tumnus, the Faun. They said he must be in the Witch’s castle. The worse thing was he might be turning into a stone statue in the Witch's courtyard. The four children, especially Lucy, fall into despair and horror.
Then a new character came into the story. The beavers told the children that compared to get into the Witch’s house without any plans, it’s more reliable to get the help from Aslan. Aslan, was the Great Lion, Lord of the Emperor across the sea, and the creature of Narnia. In other words, he was the god. If they wanted to rescue the Faun, they had tomeet Aslan at the Stone Table. And now there was no time to spare.
Chapter 9
The beavers and the children continued considering the plan of meeting Aslan until they suddenly found Edmund had disappeared The children divided themselves into many search parties to look for him. Unexpectedly, Mr. Beaver said there was no use looking for him since he had known that Edmund had already betrayed them to the Witch's side. He must be on the way to the Witch's house right now.
Till now, we realized that the White Witch was baiting Edmund as a decoy for the other children. Because according to the prophecy, when the two boys and two girls all sit in the thrones at Cair Paravel, it wiil be the end of the Witch's reign, and also the end of her life. So the Witch had to stop the Children.
Meanwhile, Edmund was going through the forest to the Witch's house. At the moment, some dreadful thoughts came into his mind. Though he felt that the White Witch was exactly a bad person, he still in intended to keep on going there for much Turkish Delight and being a King. So he proceeded to the Witch's house.
Chapter 10
After Edmund got the Witch's house, he told the Witch all he knew, including the word of Aslan was on the move to the Stone Table. The Witch seemed pretty frightful for hearing this. She got into the sledge and set off immediately.
At the same time, the Beavers and the children were ready to get out. They had to reach the Stone Table as rapidly as they could. In other hand, they must look out for the Witch, who might be on the way to the Stone Table as well.
As soon as they got to a hole, where the Beavers always hid there when they were in great danger, they had a rest because they were so tired.
A few hours later, they suddenly heard the noises of scrambling and puffing and ringing of bells. At the time all of them stooped down, wondering whether the Witch was coming on a sledge.
To their surprise, Father Christmas came here, instead of the Witch. We knew that the Witch made a spell to keep Narnia in the endless winter, and there was no Christmas. Hence, the return of Father Christmas, signaling that the Witch's spell was weakening.
Chapter 11
Edmund meanwhile got very sulky for the Witch didn't keep her commitment to give him much Turkish Delight and let him be a King. As he plucked up his courage to ask for this, the Witch just gave him some bread with a solemn expression. Since now, Edmund stopped fantasizing about the Turkish Delight or being a King. He had to admit that he was really in the wrong side. At this moment, it was his first time to want to see the other children.
After the dwarf announced that the sledge was ready, the Witch and Edmud set off. Before the sledge got away, the Witch called Maugrim and ordered him to find the Beaver's house and kill whoever he had seen. And of course he found no one there, so he went to the Stone Table and kept hiding there.
As the Witch was going by sledge, she suddenly saw a merry party in the glades. At that moment all the members of the party lost their mind. The Witch raised her wand, then instanly there were only stone statues. Edmund felt very sorry for those poot creatures and began to worry about his own safety.
After then they kept on going. But they found they only went a little further. The reason was the snow had been melting every minute so her sledge stuck in stones. Furthermore, the patches of green grass appearing. Now there was no trace of mist. This was spring now, and all of this was Aslan's doing.
Chapter 12
Now the children and the beavers were walking on the green thickets and the springy moss. The winter was vanishing altogether right now. Since they knew the Witch wouldn't be able to use her sledge any more, they had more rests and all enchanted by the landscape of spring. They kept going until they suddenly found they were at the mountain top, where they saw the Stone Table. It was a slab supported by four stone legs with many figures and lines. Right there they saw a crowd of creatures, with the banner fluttering in the breeze. Aslan stood in the center. They didn't know what to say, and they dared not to look at Aslan's royal, solemn and overwhelming face.
At last, Peter spoke and told Aslan that Edmund had betrayed them to the Witch. But at the moment they saw a sad expression appeared on Aslan's face.
Chapter 13
The Witch Edmund could't walk any longer after a long time exertion forced by the dwarf. At the moment they couldn't use their sledge so they were walking to go. The Witch and the dwarf were discussing the plan against Aslan in low tones. First they summoned all the creaturese on the Witch's side to have a battle with Aslan. Then they began to think about killing Edmund to break the prophecy.
The hangman had sharped the knife and been ready to kill Edmund. When the chips were down, the winged creatures flew upon here and undid the ropes which tied Edmund and took him away. These creatures were the troop that Aslan sent to rescue Edmund.
But the oddest thing was that they didn't see the Witch or the dwarf after saving Edmund. In fact, the Witch was able to change her presence by her own mind, so they pretended to be a stump and boulder, and kept their safety.
Edmund had apologized to the other children and the children forgave him. Then the dwarf approached Aslan and took the message that the Witch craved being seen.
Chapter 14
Aslan had a dialogue with the Witch alone. Then he declared he had settled the arrangement, but with a meloncholy expression. As well, Aslan's mood effected the others that they felt uneasily though they hardly knew what Aslan had settled the matters with the Witch, but they dared not to ask him.
As soon as Aslan went back he said they must proceed and encamp at another place the night. At this especial night, Lucy and Susan couldn't go to sleep. So they thought about going out and looking for Aslan. They saw him walking into the forest quietly and lonely and they followed up with him. At a place Aslan saw them, stopped them and ordered the two children not to be seen whatever happens. The children did, seeing him went away into the forest.
After Aslan they saw a crowd of terrible devils carring torches and in the centre was the White Witch herself. When Aslan came toward the rabble, they freaked out. But Aslan did no resistance to his enemies, just let these evil creatures bound him with the tight cords. The Witch had prepared her knife.
In reality, although Edmund had been saved, his life was still forfeited to the Witch. That morning Aslan settled the matter that he was willing to sacrifice himself and so saved Edmund.
Chapter 15
Aslan was dead. The Witch led her people and wanted to triumph over Aslan's troop. It seemed the Witch was going to win even without Aslan.
Meanwhile the two girls fell into despair, then they crept out to the Stone Table after the rabble had gone, crying hopelessly, and kissed Aslan and fondled his mane. Even the mice came and gnawed through the cords which tied on Aslan. They kept crying and crying till they had no more tears. So they went away and took a walk to warm up. Suddenly they heard a deafening noise that startled them. Lucy and Susan turned round and saw the Stone Table broke into two pieces. But Aslan had vanished. They ran back, wondering where Aslan was, then they saw Aslan just standing in front of them in amazement. They felt as frightened as they were glad to see him.
Aslan was resurrection. He explained to the children that a magic which deeper than the deep magic from the dawn of time. The Stone Table raised a willing victim who had sacrificed for the traitor from the dead.
Now the despair was out of their minds. They set off the journey to the Witch's house.
Chapter 16
Aslan and the children came into the Witch's courtyard. There were many stone statues standing there which used to be living creatures. They saw that Aslan was breathing and blowing on a lion. Then gradually the stone lion's marble surface changed its colour to gold, coming alive. The other statues came alive one by one in the same way. Aslan let the children and those people who had already came search the rest parts of the house. The best thing they did was that Lucy found Mr. Tumnus.
At last, there was no concealed prisoner. The house was in a bustle. But soon all of them were ready to fight with the Witch. A hunting animal caught a scent of the battleground, then they charged toward the battleground at full speed.
Meanwhile the troop of Aslan and Peter and Edmund were fighting against the crowd of evil creatures. There were many statues dotted on the ground, what was the Witch's doing. Peter's men were less than the Witch's and terribly tired. But Aslan's coming encouraged them. The battle ended a few minutes later after Aslan came.
The Witch was defeated. She was killed by Aslan at the battle. Most of her creatures died at the first charge by Aslan's companions. The rest withdrew from this place. On Aslan's side, Lucy were restoring the wound people by the cordial which Father Christmas had given her.
Chapter 17
After two days, the Children sat onto thrones at Cair Paravel and became Kings and Queens. They liberated Narnia and governed it well. Years later, they saw a lamp post at the forest when they were hunting. So many years passed that they all forgot going to the human world or the signification of that lamp post. In reality the lamp post was symbolizing the edge of Narnia and the human world. They didn't knew yet, but they stepped into the another side of the lamp post. Suddenly they realized that they were going through the coats and then tumbled out of the wardrobe. They were at the same place and the same moment, while Mrs. Macready was still talking to the sightseers in the passage. They were wearing the normal clothes and they weren't Kings or Queens any more.
They told the whole thing to Professor. He said there was no doubt that they'd get back to Narnia someday but in a different route. So this was the end of their adventure in the wardrobe, but it was just the beginning of the story of Narnia.
