There's a well-known saying - The only constant thing in our life is change. Do you agree with this? If yes, please type 1 in our group chat. Thank you for your feedback.
Well, then how to face the ever-changing world and life?
There's another saying - always have a plan.
3 weeks ago, I accepted a task from our District core team, to perform the Chief Entertainment Officer in the district officer training activity, which would be held offline in Beijing on Jun 20. There will be around half an hour for me to arrange some games and performances to make the training more attractive. I'm so happy to get this role and started to plan for it. I have a lot of ideas in my mind.
While wait, what if we can not gather offline due to the epidemic condition? I raised the concern to the core team, they said, it was under discussion. And if we move it online, we will shorten it and make some changes.
I started to have a plan B - to find some short games suitable for online interaction. After 2 days, the epidemic situation in Beijing became worse. We decided to move the training online. The game section was shortened into 10 mins.
Ok, I still have a plan for it! I could arrange an interactive game called “Know you the best”, in Chinese “懂你大挑战”。To make a set of interesting questions related to our district 88, and use a cool application called kahoot to play it. Kahoot can timely show us the top 3 players with a cool picture and background music! Very nice!
Oh wait! What if the network condition is unstable? Kahoot requires a good net condition. Otherwise it will get stucked. I need to have another plan B. Ok, use PPT to show the questions one by one. Players can answer them in the group chat, not that cool but much more stable and safe. I created 2 versions of games, one on Kahoot application, the other on PPT.
Jun 20th came soon. We started the training from 9 am in the morning, and my section was arranged in the afternoon. I observed the overall net condition in the morning, and I found it was really not very stable... I have to launch my plan B. Use PPT to show the questions and ask players to answer them in the group chat.
In this case, how can I make it a little more exciting? I got some other plans! Manually set a background music for it, mojito from 周杰伦 is good! And I still can make a rule for the game to get the winners. For each question, the first one who answered correctly can get 3 points. Second 2 points, 3rd 1 point. I will calculate after the game and give the winners some surprise.
Finally I conducted the section with this plan, everyone joined it and the process was not only happy but also exciting, more importantly, It's VERY stable! Our fellow Toastmasters from different cities enjoyed the happy moments together, no one got stucked, no one is missing.
When I recall the whole process, although, it was a little pity that we cannot meet offline and have more interesting interactions, we can not use Kahoot app to have a cool game moments, we are still together to feel the warmth in this big family. offline meeting will come eventually, Kahoot will come eventually, all my plans can be used someday.
The point is, no matter what happens, always have a plan.
