A review of

Becoming JANE

At that time in British society, marrying only for love was not as sensible as marrying for enough property.

However, money and affection were both indispensable for a successful marriage according to Jane's thought.

Tom Lefroy, a lawyer learner who was dependent upon his weird uncle, as well as a boxing fan with a dissolute lifestyle.

Jane Austen,a penniless rural girl but with independent thought, who loved to write.

So when the destiny tied Tom and Jane together, an incredible but romantic love story happened.

Acquaintance

Prejudices, disagreements and unpleasant were filled when they first acquaint each other.

For lateness, Tom broke in while Jane was reading blessings to her sister's coming wedding but sat down with naturalness .

Worse still, as the reading finished ,everyone appreciated satisfaction except Tom.

Even some negative comments were given by him.

Jane was no doubt to be offended and irritated.

Consequently, a poor first impression was left.     

Cricket

The first turning point was a cricket game.

It is known to be a game of males.

However, one day, in that game, Jane unexpectedly got off her chair to participate in it and played against Tom.

To everyone's surprise, it turned out that Tom lost the game,

thanks to his underestimate and carelessness.

So form then on, Tom's attitude towards Jane gradually changed.

Boxing

The second turning point was a boxing game at Laverton fair（拉弗顿集会）.

While visiting and wandering,

it suddenly jumped to Tom's sight that someone ordinary was fighting with a professional boxer.

So he took off his coat without hesitation and faced the professional as a replacement.

Of course, finally, he lost again.

But his integrity and bravery entirely attracted Jane at that time .

Romance

The romantic scene was played out in a ball.

Jane was informed that Tom was arranged to leave the town the day after that.

Overwhelmed by an unsettled, and eagerly expectant heart,

Jane kept her eyes searching for Tom's shadow as soon as she stepped into the dance hall.

With no satisfying result, she could only dance with another man.

However,

as she was swamped by bitter disappointment, what romantic came on.

As music played gently and smoothly, people moved their steps.

And it's time for Jane to turn around.

Out of Jane's expectation,

Tom suddenly showed up behind her.

He was changed to be Jane's partner and waited for her sight.

They smiled, stared, and without stopping.

Confession

As previously referred, Tom was bound to leave the next day.

After the dance, Jane could never hide her affection anymore.

So, she went out and found somewhere to calm herself down.

It was obvious that Tom had the same feeling as Jane.

So he also went out and eventually found Jane.

They confided, and then kissed.

Then Jane decided to take a journey to London with Tom.

Almost Kiss

As their lips almost touched, Tom was suddenly called by Jane's brother.

It was just like their marriage, approximate to success but finally coming to nothing.     

Miss

Jane went back to her home because Tom's uncle didn't approve of their marriage.

Tom had no choice but to follow his uncle because of his family duty.

After meeting Jane, Tom could not go back to his previous life.

It was a huge misery for him to live without Jane.

So much did he miss Jane that he decided to find Jane and elope with her.

Then the climax comes…

Elopement

From my perspective, it deserved to be the climax of the whole story.

As Jane once considered, "money and affection are both indispensable for a successful marriage."

But Jane chose to run away with affection alone, which greatly challenges her core thoughts.

Warmth

Fortunately, the terrific courage of those two people was favoured by Jane's sister.

Obstacle

But with money inadequate in their later life, it could be imaged that their marriage was a rough road.

Argument

Jane accidentally found a letter written to Tom, which indicated Tom's family responsibility.

An argument occurred and Jane decided to go back home as a sensible choice.

Back

Jane witnessed Tom's distressed expression from the jolting carriage.

Instead of being annoyed, Jane's mother comforted her with a gentle and warm embrace.

Jane made her mind to be a writer and live by her pen.

An independent women both spiritually and materially appeared.

See you again, after long years.

The same person, but changed time.

Without dark hair or youthful appearance.

"It is really a great pleasure to meet you again.

I have expected this scene for such a long time."

If I were one of them, I would put those words out.

Jane?

Who was Jane?

Both .

Tom's eldest daughter, the most avid admirer of Jane Austen, whose name was Jane Lefroy.

The moment I heard that, I got puzzled.

It did take a moment for me to figure out that Tom named her daughter after Jane.

Sometimes, even death is not the destination of one's life.

But forgetting could be.

You never thoroughly die until the people remembering you in the world begin to erase their memory of you.

Even though our life will come to an end eventually, our memory will never vanish.

Tom chose this special way to impress Jane in the rest of his life unrelated to her.

Though they were living far part in the world, he never forgot Jane.

Married/Unmarried

Tom's ring finger was occupied but seemed not very satisfied,

while Jane was left unmarried but seemed not very depressed.

End

Their story ended.

But our story is continuing…
