GM foods, yes or no?

With a growing world population one of the most pressing issues is that of feeding such a large number of people. Some people think that "GM foods" offer a viable solution to this problem. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Nowadays, the food production rate is under increasing pressure due to the world population number over time, thus, some think the consumption of genetically modified food is a feasible solution to address the shortage of foods. Although I concur with this idea, I believe that proper management of taking GM foods is also crucial for society.

To commence with, the global population is increasing at an exponential rate, which leads to poverty and a severe shortage of food supply. Many people are not able to have access to regular food due to poverty. Research has shown that 56% of Africa's communities are food-deprived as they often can not afford it, which leads to malnutrition in around 64% of the children. Laboratory-produced food can aid the poor in having access to healthy and cheap food which is full of nourishment in spite of the living condition. Furthermore, GM foods often have undergone more detailed evaluation than any other group of plants that we consume. The National Academy for Science suggested that the origin and function of the nutrition in GM foods are well understood, which are safe for human health. In addition, over the two decades that GM foods have been on the market, there have been no occurrences of health issues due to genetically modified organisms. Therefore, GM foods can be considered a decent solution to address the problem of food scarcity.

On the other hand, even though GM foods can help relieve the pressure of insufficient eating, it is also should be considered which the newly upcoming GM foods are must be monitored and evaluated, in order to prevent the detrimental effect on health by unknown gene modification.

To sum up, while GM foods play an important role to resolve the issue of lacking foodstuff, we also need to pay attention to the management of the food source which can lead to health problems.
