This article is to celebrate the 4th year birthday of ACTMC ( AmCham China Toastmaster club - open house speech. AC 1 2017.Nov.8th)

Good evening! Toastmaster Club (TM) is a place where leaders are made. After 1 year joining TM, I’m really honored to share my understanding with you about leadership in this open house event.

Last Sunday. I want to buy a parrot , because they have the talent of speaking human’s language.

I asked the boss how much are those two.

He owner said “ 1000 each. “.

Then he explained “ this red one can sing songs. And the blue one can read poem.” “ AND That one is RMB 5000. “

Wow, so expensive. He must know something really specially. So I asked what he can do ?

The owner said : in fact , he can do nothing. But the other parrot all call him “ BOSS”.

Question: Is this parrot a leader since all of the other parrots call him “ Boss” ?

Is leadership comes from “ authorization “ “ title “ or “position”.

Or is leadership related with ………..

If you have to choose one word from all above here to represent leadership, which one will you choose ?

Let me check with our area director, she has the higest authority in tonight's officers.

Yes, Maybe “Influence” is the best word to demonstrate “Leadership”.

In each of your mind, who is the greatest leader that influenced you a lot ? Pls share with me later during the break.

Leadership is everywhere.

From your relationship to your child.

From your friends to your colleague.

Leader can be anybody.

He could be your neighbor Mr. Wang , or the girl sitting next to you.

Think about those people you like to spent time with, you like to learn with, you like to work with. They are all people who are influence you.

The fantastic thing about Leadership is : leadership can be learned.

Here is a book I will love to recommend to you all.

Leadership related with 2 things: character and competences.

Am I a leader?

Here is a mirror. Pls imagine you are looking into it. Ask yourself, do you see yourself as a leader ?

If you ask me, Do I think you are a leader?

My answer is: Yes.

Everybody show here tonight, is a person has the spirit of leadership.

Everybody who join TM, have the potential to a good leader.

Why am I so confident?

Why TM is a place “ where leaders are made?”

How can TM help people to become a good leader ?

Because here is a place offer you knowledge and practice to enable you to be the person who you want to be.

In TM, you can influence others as a speaker.

If you like watch public speech, you may know TED. Lots of speech there are inspiring, touching, profound and change people’s life. TM is a TED around you.

TM helps you to improve your public speaking skills. It helps you to speak into people's heart.

In TM, you can influence others as meeting role.

Let’s take Peter as an example.

Tonight Peter is the TM.

To hold a meeting, Peter needs to consider the theme for the meeting.

Peter needs to planning how to open the meeting, how to process the meeting, how to close it.

Peter needs to check if each role and speaker is on board on time. Dealing with changes and accidents.

Peter also needs to listen to everybody careful, have critical thinking and give feedback with a motivating.

In one word, Peter has to consider everything as he is the host.

Do you agree peter did a great job so far? Pls give him a round of warm applause.

TM, each role will help you to enhance certain leadership skill. Here is a place you can practice to be perfect.

In TM, you can influence others as an officer.

In TM, there are lots of position as an officer.

Start from each single club officer, then to area, division, internationally. In TM, to be an officer is to serve our members, server the club.You may not a manager in your company. But here, you can be, President.

How big is your dream, how broad this TM theater can offer to you.

TM is a place the more you contribute, the more you will grow up.

Here are many great examples around us today.

Lillian, was VPM and the President of our club. Now she serviced as area director. From her sharing tonight, you must already know how TM influenced her in the past 3 years.

She is so influencial, she expand our members to all creature. Here is our cutest member: BENBEN. She is so active and do a good job as VPM, she recrute another cutest member. Both of them contributs a lot to our posters and have voice on our voting ceremony.

Dandan, joined Oct. last year, already serviced as president of our club. Lead the team grow up the club, attracted lots of new members.

Kelly, our VPE. You have no idea how much time she devoted for the club and programs. During my 1 year journey with TM, I saw each of our member made great progress.

During this 1 year journey, I saw every member made huge progress.

TM doesn't only influence you, It influenced all people around you , even influence to your child, the future leaders.

This is my son. He fall in love with TM even before he even visit.That’s the amazing part of TM’s leadership. TM also become a place he dated her girlfriend.
