Reading Robinson Crusoe in Game Perspective

After reading Robinson Crusoe, I found that its content is very similar to the survival video games in today’s world. Because both of them have a series of main missions, a same process – use limited sources to live on and a similar ending.

At the very beginning of the plot, there is always a transitional period to protect the green hand that the system (Or the writer in the story) will offer some helps to assist the protagonist (Or the player in the game) to adapt the strange environment. For example, send some shipwreck with various necessities in order to assist the protagonist to foot on the island. After the adaptation, the system will impel the protagonist silently to explore the map, then the game truly starts. Besides, the protagonist may accept some side missions which will improve the living conditions but it’ll affect nothing if the protagonist won’t do it. For instance, Robinson had domesticated goats in the island and saved the Spanish man, etc. However, saving Friday and assisting captain to re-control the ship, they belong to the main mission which means it will influence the development of the plot.

Why I’ll consider Robinson Crusoe as a game is because Robinson is so lucky a man that you would unconsciously think anything upon him had been arranged by someone already just like playing a survival video game. But would Robinson Crusoe discover that he is in a game designed by Defoe? No. And how can we realize whether we are in the game setting by what-so-called fate or anything else? But it is not really matter whether we’re in the cage or not. What is the reality? Robinson Crusoe’s world, which is a virtual literature for us, is the reality to him. So does the player in the game space. Although in the game, Robinson denied the fate given by family and chose to sail on the sea. It is the fate and also the choice made by him. Thus, life is a game for ourselves and what is important is our inner mind chose to be.
