As we all know, success requires competitive abilities in many areas. Luck is also a vital aspect to people’s success which some people may ignore.
People who believe luck is useless may pay too much attention to the matching ability of successful people in the society but ignore that some people have the same ability or talent but cannot achieve the same success. Some people prefer to find a convincing reason for each event. However, when mathematicians looked into the reasons that can explain why people with same ability have different fates, they found out that many things are unpredictable and random. In other words, luck, the unpredictable thing is play an important role here.
One example to demonstrate the effect of luck on people’s success is what kind of mentors or teachers we meet in our life. A nice teacher will accelerate our learning process and create life-time benefits for us. Whereas, an inefficient teacher may lead us to losing precious learning opportunities and directly decide whether we can success in the future or not. People who believe luck is useless may debate that hard work can get rid of the influence of bad teachers. However, we should bear in mind that when someone need to work harder to achieve the same things as others, their efforts may work and may not but the only certain thing here is that luck already makes a difference in his or her life.
Other examples include unexpected man-made or natural disasters such as the Economic Great Depression, car accidents, earthquakes, etc. Those unlucky people may come across enormous damages during those disasters and lose their chance to succeed.
Although I admit the important role of luck in humans’ success, I insist that people should not rely on luck to achieve success. We should accept the fact that there are things we cannot control in our life but that does not mean we should not give up the hope of our life. Knowing the role of luck in our life, we can better focus on what we can control and do our best no matter we are luck or not
