讨论了这么多晚的自我存在，不免让人对世界的真实感到怀疑，假如世界是假的，那真理与公平又该去哪里寻找？人类还能得到自我救赎吗？在感到消沉的此刻，我们需要菅野洋子的《Living Inside the Shell》驱走这焦虑，带来一点点美好和希望。
作为《攻壳机动队》TV版第二季的片尾曲，这首《Living Inside the Shell》通篇采用明亮的大和弦，以振奋人心的弦乐作为主基调，奏出乐观之音。歌词也颇具神圣性，就如一个徜徉于信仰大门之外的人，忽然遇到传授福音的神，在神的引导之下看见了真实的自己。菅野洋子自小成长在一个基督教家庭，对塑造这种情景的创作自然是得心应手。在看尽了沧桑之后，仍然保持对美好的向往，或许才是我们应对生活应有的态度。

歌曲的演唱者是美国乐队The contes的主唱兼吉他手Steve Conte。Steve Conte此前曾与菅野洋子合作过多次，最著名的作品有《Cowboy Bebop》的《Rain》、《Call me》和《No reply》，《狼雨》的主题曲《Stray》，《翼神传说》的《Garden of Everything》等等。他的唱腔带有浓重的鼻音和沧桑的嘶哑，让人想到来自美国西部的牛仔，非常适合唱摇滚和民谣。而他与菅野洋子合作之后大大拓宽了自己的风格之路。在菅野洋子为他量身定做的大量作品里，他既唱粗忧伤犷的老男人歌，又唱深情款款的小年轻慢歌，在菅野手上变成了一颗灿烂的星星。

紧跟着，一个女声开始轻轻念白，仿佛天使在耳语，引导歌者直视藏在躯壳中的灵魂，引导歌者连上更大的信息网络，去找寻自我的意义，甚至要去与别人的思想融为一体，体会新的自我苏醒的喜悦。
在《攻壳机动队》里，这个引导者的角色非素子莫属了。
结尾部分Conte反复演唱副歌段，一次比一次更加高亢，和声更加复杂，甚至最后人声被弦乐二重奏簇拥着逐渐减弱，就像我们目送歌者跟随天使飞升而去，渐行渐远，完成了一次奇迹的见证。
95剧场版里素子与傀儡师融合时曾看见过天使降临
假如说押井守的剧场版是沉郁压抑的，是以放弃自我求得超越，那么神山健治的TV版则给出自我坚持的答案，仍给予治愈的希望。为这样的故事核心制作温柔坚强的曲子，正是菅野洋子的强项。每当故事完结，提琴重奏奏响时，我们仍可以对明天抱有期待。
