Lesson 26-2 Thepast life of the earth
The remains ofplants and animals that lived on land are much more rarely preserved, for thereis seldom anything to cover them over. When you think of the innumerable birdsthat one sees flying about, not to mention the equally numerous small animalslike field mice and voles which you do not see, it is very rarely that one comesacross a dead body, except, of course, on the roads. They decompose and arequickly destroyed by the weather or eaten by some other creature.
It is almostalways due to some very special circumstances that traces of land animalssurvive, as by falling into inaccessible caves, or into an ice crevasse, likethe Siberian mammoths, when the whole animal is sometimes preserved, as in arefrigerator.

练习感悟:这篇文章的难度还是比较大的,读起来结结巴巴的,有好几个生词,读起来都非常拗口,最后虽然录了两三遍就达标了,但是很勉强,有好几处打结的地方。
