“The most successful people in the world base their identity and internal narrative on their future, not their past.” -Benjamin P. Hardy

Rather than viewing your life through the lens of your past or present experiences, it’s far more powerful to decide upon the future experiences you want to have and then live through that lens today.

You see the life you want to have in your mind and heart and then begin living from that place today.

And while it may seem counterintuitive to what I’ve previously said, this can actually be done by intentionally giving yourself a label and then “acting as if.”

For example, the now bestselling author, Jeff Goins, had always wanted to be a writer. However, he never managed to get himself to actually be a writer.

Although once he assumed the label of “I am a Writer,” that identification forced him to stop dreaming and start acting like it. He took on the role of a successful writer, and then ultimately became a successful writer himself.

Indeed, acting “as if” had very quickly become living “as is;” he’d evolved into the person he’d always intended to be.

Although the difference between Jeff and the way most people set labels is intention. He decided upon a label that would serve and allow him to become his future-self rather than one that would limit him to stay as his present-self.

So, what label would force you to become who you’ve always intended to be?

What labels do you need to remove from your life?

How can you make your narrative future-facing rather than past or present-facing?
