People are now in the debate on what business to introduce to our community, a shopping mall, a performing art center or a hotel. In my view, it is more desirable to have a performing art centre built in our neighborhood.
First, introducing a performing art center is to the immediate interest of local folks. Such a facility will enable the gradual flow of theaters, musicals, operas, concerts and the like to put onstage, providing a feast to people's eyes and cultivating high spirit in their spare time. Imagine the thrill we locals would have when we could appreciate PHANTOM OF THE OPERA or BACH's concert at our doorway, an experience that otherwise would be totally different, if conveyed to us via TV screens, radio waves or words in books.
Second, art facilities are essential for long-term development of a strong community. People need education in fine art. Indeed,it is only through art that we are exposed to the best that our collective humanness has to offer, so that we are no longer lost in our hustling and bustling,finding no meaning in endless material pursuit. Moreover, people should be enabled to learn to appreciate the high art, which is all the more important now that many opponents argue the highbrow pastime isn’t for everyone. After all, the power of performing art is so immediately and profoundly felt that humans never stop drawing on its strength, living and reliving that similar scene shown in the Shawshank’s Redemption, when all the prisoners were stunned in awe of the beauty of the MARRIAGE OF FIGARO, despite what few minutes it was allowed.
Third, like a shopping mall or a hotel, a performing art will directly bring considerable contribution to the town's economic growth. It is no secret that performing art business is highly profitable as long as the plays or performances are reasonably run, based on targeted marketing on audiences and on seasons of productions. Plus, under proper regulation and planning, it could form a business centre across several adjacent neighborhoods, providing a boom in economy across towns and sectors.
To sum up, in this ever materialized world,people are in need of more spiritual boost from art education or exposure. If given a chance to introduce a business to this vacant piece of land in our community, I, like many others, will definitely welcome the idea to introduce a performing art center to our neighborhood.
