二零二零年春节，外面风声鹤唳，新型冠状肺炎确诊数量日日飙涨。我全程在家自我隔离。一天做三顿饭是我的日常工作，闲暇时，施施肥，松松土，时不时也处理一些公司的事物，日子竟也过得嗖嗖得快。今天看到新闻上说：”美国1300万人被感染，12万人住院，6600人死亡。“乍一看，我以为是故意黑美国的，美国这么发达，不应该因为区区流感死这么多人吧？可看的次数多了，我不禁也狐疑起来。于是找了两个在美国的朋友打听。一个说统计口径不同，不能只看数字。看得我一头雾水。另外一个说“不太清楚，好像今年流感确实比较严重”。
我找到了数据的源头，我噻，死亡人数刷新到8200-20000了。参见：

可为啥没有引起美国人的注意呢？接着往下看，原来这个数据和以往的同期数据相比算最低的，难怪人家没有大惊小怪了。

那么为啥这个数据看起来这么大呢？其一，流感不是某个特定的病毒造成的疾病，光A类流感就包含144种子类型。而且美国统计的死亡率是包括流感及其并发症引起的死亡，比流感直接导致的死亡率高多了。
英文谚语说“if you torture the data long enough, it will confess to anything” 。这么调查一下，的确清晰多了！
