On hearing the news that the great hall of Hrothgar, King of the Danes, is raided by a dreadful sea monster named Grendel, Beowulf comes to help him, killing Grandel and Grandel's equally dangerous mother. Later, Beowulf, King of his own land, dies killing a dragon that threatening his poeple.
