All the new products Amazon is rumoured to be working on, from a futuristic home robot to Alexa earbuds
When it comes to gadgets, Amazon is best known for its line of Echo smart speakers, Kindle e-readers, and Fire TVs and tablets. But based on reports, it sounds like the online retail giant has a lot more in its pipeline. Amazon is reportedly planning to bring its popular Alexa assistant to a slew of new gadgets including home robots and earbuds.
Amazon is developing a new Echo that could be released by next year. It’s shaped like a cylinder just like the company’s current speaker and that it’s wider than the version Amazon sells today. That extra space is being used to fit additional components in the device
The company is developing a household robot that has wheels for roaming about the home and navigates using computer vision, according to the report. Like the Echo, users would be able to interact with it using voice commands. The device is being called “Vesta” internally.
The company will reportedly release voice-activated earbuds powered by its popular Alexa virtual assistant as early as the second half of 2019. Such actions reportedly include tapping to switch between music tracks or end phone calls. Like AirPods, they are also expected to come in a case that serves as a charger.
Also, the company is reportedly developing a wrist-worn gadget that could recognise human emotions. The voice-activated device has been described as a health and wellness gadget, and it can discern a user’s emotional state by the sound of his or her voice. The news regarding the product’s development comes as rival Apple have been pushing more deeply into health. If Amazon does launch a wrist-worn health device, it would represent yet another area in which Amazon competes with the iPhone maker, along with voice-enabled assistants and music streaming.
These are the 5 top-paid jobs in Australia right now as salaries grow and job vacancies dwindle
First, the bad news — your job hunt could be a lot tougher than it was 12 months ago, given there are 6.5% fewer jobs advertised today, according to the latest analysis by Australian job site Seek. That’s on the back of a large slowdown in the housing and construction sectors.
However, advertised Australian salaries are 3.5% higher than they were 12 months ago across the country. WA, SA and Queensland regions are heavily populated with mining towns that have specifically contributed to the growth in salary. We have seen a consistent rise in salary across the resources industry, with mining contributing to both salary and job growth over the past three and a half years. Architects are followed by management roles in the resources sector, who on average command $139,782, compared to third-placed engineering ($136,564) and IT managers (135,480). Accountants round out the list earning $130,302.
The pay discrepancy between men and women, according to Banks, is partly due to a lack of confidence when applying for more senior positions. One of the reasons we feel that this gap exists in roles applied for on Seek is that women tend to deter from roles which detail a long skill set requirement.
Before you buy anything from Amazon, use these 2 websites to decide whether the deal is as good as it looks
Shopping on Amazon can be tricky business, with constantly shifting prices and dozens of product listings that look the same. Whether you’re looking for bluetooth headphones, new shoes, or garden tools, you’ll need to be ready to sift through hundreds of product listings to find the right item, and even then it’s hard to guarantee that you’re getting the best price.
Use CamelCamelCamel.com to see how much a product has been discounted in the past: While hundreds of Amazon items are constantly on sale, their prices often fluctuate over time. As an added bonus, CamelCamelCamel will let you set price alerts so you’ll automatically receive an email when a product hits the price you want.
Fakespot automatically scans product listings to check for counterfeit products and fake reviews: This can be particularly important when checking deals on discounted electronics and clothing, as some sellers might try and ship a non-official product in place of the original. Fakespot also has a browser extension like CamelCamelCamel that will pop up automatically when you visit Amazon and a few other websites, like Best Buy, Walmart, TripAdvisor and Yelp.
