    (by contrast, subject-by-subject)

Qiyuan is my son and Siyuan is my best friend’s son. Both are nine years old. They are good friends, but they have very different characters. Qiyuan is easy-going while Siyuan is particular. Here are some examples to show their difference. Qiyuan is willing to play with any group of people—men or woman, young or old, and can always find something interesting to both or to all. For example, he plays building blocks with his 5-year-old cousin; he plays football with a group of kids ranging from 5 to 12; he plays Chinese checkers with Siyuan’s father; he plays poker with his grandpa. Whenever a friend of mine invites him to dinner, he would be glad to accept the invitation. When it comes to food, he’s willing to have any food that is healthy. On the contrary, Siyuan will choose to play with a certain group of people—mostly two or three of his classmates, and the way they play is monotonous—in most cases just playing computer games. He would almost always say no to invitation for dinner from her parents’ friends. When it comes to food, he is very particular. He only eats food that is pleasing to his appetite. As a result, he eats a lot of junk food.
