perch:坐落于，坐落在……的顶部或边缘。查了下，perch作名词还有鲈鱼的意思，有意思！
The place consisted of a straggling unmade road which was lined on either side by small houses.
straggling: 四处蔓延的，散乱的分布的
line：VERB 动词 沿…排列成行；遍布…的边沿 If people or things line a road, room, or other place, they are present in large numbers along its edges or sides.
