1.why does Baby Suggs insisted on calling herself Baby Suggs instead of Jenny Whitlow?

The name of Baby Suggs came from her husband. She’s concerned that if she called herself the name of others, her escaped husband would never be able to  find her.

2.In the flash back, we can see the white girl-Amy’s various deeds toward Sethe. What do you think are reasons that Sethe  named the new-born baby after Amy Denver? (except for the reason of helping Sethe with her  baby delivering)

Although the whitegirl Amy seemed did many inhumane things to Sethe, she still helped Sethe one way or another. Actually, I think Amy can’t be all blamed for her indifference in the first place. Because what she did to Sethe is like a miniature of the white to the black. This unequal treatment was like a stalk rooted in their concepts. When she first met Sethe, with her cognition, she considered her reaction was very normal.  After all, over their conversation, Sethe  had seen hope from Amy along the way even Amy didn’t help her a lot physically. To Sethe, Amy Denver was like a spirit which represent hope and possibilities.

3.In the carnival,when Denver was surrounded by a crowed of people who pleased her enough to consider the possibility that Paul.D wasn't all that bad,why did Denver change her attitude towards Paul.D?

Denver was the only child that Sethe had then. Sethe cared about Denver’s every subtle feelings, but Denver was still lonely. In the first, she worried about her mother would be shared. So she resisted him. But after the carnival, she found out that Paul D could bring the happiness to her and her mom that they never had before. She even saw the envy from other niggers, which is more positive for her to change her attitude towards Paul D.

4.How did Denver change her attitude towards Paul D?

There’s several stage of Denver’s attitude towards Paul D. At first, she’s curious about the man, then she resisted the man resentfully. Slowly, she eased her attitude after the carnival. But when Beloved came into their lives, she’s willing to do anything to protect Beloved from being hurt by Paul D.
