2018年4月8日，“英语•行动”群主李洪彬老师开启了“英语字典的使用实战与思考”的学习之旅，号召群内的小伙伴至少每三天根据自己的实际情况分享自己在使用字典中的心得或碰到的疑惑，希望在同一个话题下，每人能各抒己见，擦出不一样的火花。
这段时间，我着重分享了常见的英语单词及自己有困惑的知识点。虽然单词较为常见，比较简单，但通过查阅字典后却发现了很多新意，所以自己的收获还是挺多的。以下是查阅字典中比较典型的几个例子：
A. direct 可作为副词，有两个含义
1. without interrupting a journey; using a straight route 中途不停地，径直地，笔直地
The train goes there direct.
2. with no one in between; personally亲自地，直接地
I prefer to deal with him direct.
B. directly的新意
1. at once, immediately 立刻，马上； in a short time 不久，很快
Come in directly.
2. 可作为连词=as soon as
I went home directly I had finished work.
C. 被忽略的face
1. smiling faces 注意它的英文定义，指的是expression shown on a face
2. in the face of sth除了我们所了解的面对某事，它还是有另外一个意思是in spite of sth
Succeed in the face of danger.
3. face 做动词，有require the attention of sth/sb, confront的意思，可以主动表被动
The problems that face the Government.
4. face 还有几个比较生动的表达：
One’s face falls = one’s expression shows disappointing
Put a bold/brave/good face on sth: accept (bad news, etc) courageously
Set one’s face against sb/sth: determined to oppose sb/sth
D. good 的新用法
1. valid for sth 有效的
The return half of ticket is good for three months.
2. used with expressions of measurement, quantity etc: not less than / rather more than
We waited for a good hour.= We waited for more than an hour.
3. good and... = completely
I won’t go until I’m good and ready. = I won’t go until I’m completely ready.
4. for good (and all )=permanently, finally
She says that she’s leaving the country for good.
5. to the good: used to describe sb’s financial state in credit
We are 5000$to the good. = we have 5000$ more than we had.
E. 不一样的call
1. If you call somewhere, you make a short visit there
A market researcher called at the house where he was living.
2. （火车、公共汽车、船舶）停靠、停留When a train, bus or ship calls somewhere, it stops there for a short time to allow people to get on or off.
The steamer calls at several ports along the way.
3. 取消（比赛等）To call a game or sporting event means to cancel it, for 1. example because of rain or bad light.
The second game of the series had ended in a 3-3 tie after ten innings when the game was called on account of darkness. 系列比赛第二场在十局过后，双方战成3比3平，此时由于天黑，比赛取消。
2. 单数名词：吸引力,魅力 the call of something such as a place is the way it attracts or interests you strongly
You must be feeling exhilarated by the call of the new.
3. 拓展词组
1) First call on 优先购买（或使用）
Why should they get first call on the best property?
2) No call for 没必要；不该
There was no call for him to single you out from all the others.
3) On call 随时待命的，随叫随到的
In theory I’m on call day and night.
F. 原来reach也可以这么表达
之所以查这个单词，是因为听武志红讲解“延伸与耐力”那一讲时出现了这个单词，查阅字典后，发现了一个比较高级的表达We must reach out to those in need. 我们应该伸出援助之手，帮助有困难的人。
G.关于share几个有意思的表达：
1. go shares (with sb) (in sth)= share (profits, costs etc)equally with others
Let me go shares with you in the taxi.
2. share sth (with sb) 除了有have or use sth with sb的意思外，但它还有have sth in common的意思
3. share and share alike 事事均分
通过这个月的学习，自己爱上了用英文字典来查阅单词。有些单词翻译成中文后释义可能是一样的，但通过翻看它们的英文释义就可以很清楚地知道其区别和用法。遗憾的是自己不喜欢用手机查阅单词，所以对于小伙伴们推荐的网站运用很少，加上家里的字典没有词根词缀相关内容，自己对这块知识点了解还是比较少。后期会持续关注并保持用字典查阅字典的习惯，并有意识地去积累遇到的词根词缀。
