陨石根据其所含的化学成分，大致可分3类:含铁镍的为铁陨石，也叫陨铁;铁镍与硅酸盐矿物大致各占一半的为石铁陨石;硅酸盐的为石陨石。根据陨石是否经过熔融过程，也将陨石分为未分异型球粒陨石和分异型无球粒陨石两大类。
