If a student run into a responsible English teacher patient enough to do a small quiz in every ,he or she is so lucky and should learn to appreciate the fact.
Some students live in an illusion and consider learning vocabulary a waste of time and it's alright to skip. But usually, they'll soon take the consequence during following exams. Thumbing through the papers, the words and phrases are showing up like those inscrutable runes. They have no inkling of what those articles are attempting to convey but take a random guess on each of the subsequent questions. When results come out, they self-loathe and lose enthusiasm in learning this language.
The quintessence of a language lies in the vocabulary, which can be likened to the building blocks that make up the foundation. To a beginner, and you certainly appear to be, the priority is always to memorize words. Of course, this includes every single one in the syllabus. You will never be overwhelmed to try remembering more - those that appear in reading materials or international newspapers.
