Godefroid Devreese (1861-1941), Belgian sculptor and medallist, is the author of this chapter. Born in Courtrai, Belgium, in 1861. Earlier, he studied art at Cortryck College. From 1881 to 1886, he studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels. He was taught by sculptors Eugne Simonis (1810-1893) and Charles Van der Stappen (1843-1910).
