作者提出了Begin with the end in mind 以终为始的第二个习惯。他认为以终为始最有效的方法，就是撰写一份A Personal Mission Statement个人使命宣言，也可以说是人生哲学或基本信念。个人人生宣言主要说明你想成为什么样的人，你想取得社么样的成就，以及其基础的价值观和原则。作者认为A Personal Mission Statement是我们衡量生活中各种事物的基准 (criterion)，可借此对生活中的各种事物设定正确的 priority。

Writing or reviewing a mission statement changes you because it forces you to think through your priorities deeply, carefully.;and to align your behavior with your beliefs.

作者写道撰写过程中需要发挥作用的两项人类天赋——想象力和良知——是右脑的主要职能。而锻炼开发右脑想象力功能很有效的方法就是

1.Expand Perspective拓宽思路 你不妨在脑海里描绘银婚及金婚纪念日的情景，想象你退休后的情景，想象你生命临到终点要做的事情等等

2 Visualization And Affirmation心灵演练和确认 这个过程要不断的进行演练，作者在这里举了他自身的一个例子他每天都可以抽出几分钟，在身心完全放松的情况下，想象孩子们可能做出的各种不当行为，以及自己的反应。他尽量设想每一个细节，想象的细节越生动，脑海中的影像越清晰，就越能深刻体会到那种感觉，他看到了他女儿的不当行为，要在平常，这一定会让作者心跳加剧，脾气失控，但是，这一次他在脑海中看到自己在关爱和自律的作用下做出了正确反应，于是加以“确认”。如能每天如此，这种行为就会在潜移默化中逐渐转变，直到能完全控制情绪，冷静应变。从此生活将以正确的价值观为依据的人生剧本，而不是外界环境。

当然不管怎么样的使命宣言，每个成员都要切身参与其中，因为No involvement, no commitment.
