Since 2006, 11 radio telescopes around the globe have worked together trying to make a picture of a giant black hole. Scientists called the project The Event Horizon, which is the term for the border of a black hole, beyond which no matter or light can travel fast enough to escape the gravity. ETH scientists captured radio waves from the event horizon, and made out the shadow of the black hole. Radboud University Nijmegen astrophysicist  Heino Falcke said, "We're looking at a region that we've never looked at before - a region we cannot imagine being there. It feels like looking at the gates of Hell, at the end of space and time: the event horizon, the point of no return. That is awe-inspiring to me, at least, but it's also important to physics."
