The scientific culture is deeply sceptical.
This innate scepticism is deeply resented by many outside the fraternity of science, who equate it with arrogance and close-mindedness.
Scientist feels strongly about the value of their culture and methods and, with good reasons, fiercely resist attempts to graft the culture of the press and the boardroom to the culture of the laboratory. In so doing, however, they sometimes dismiss legitimate concerns and alienate politically or economically powerful groups.
