在听力高考中，考生首先听到的都是一段时长两分多钟的试音材料。绝大部分学生都认为听不听这段材料无所谓，作用也不大，于是把点时间用在了调整情绪或者胡思乱想上。但我认为，充分利用试音材料也是有很大作用的。否则的话，不可能在弥足珍贵的高考即将开始的时间里，白白占用这两分钟的时间的。在播出试音的时间里，考生还没有拿到试卷，也正好无事可做，不妨就静下心来认真听听试音材料，达到两个目的。
一是熟悉主播声音。从这几年山东听力高考来看，两位主播是不固定的，几乎年年换人。而主播的语音、语调和语速对考生来说是有一定影响的。考生正好利用试音材料充分感受熟悉主播们的声音，做到心中有数，为接下来的听力正式考试做好充分的心理准备。
二是增强信心。纵观全国听力试音材料，许多年来一直都保持固定，即关于咨询报名一个俱乐部的话题。考生完全可以利用一点时间将这段材料熟记于心，到考场上就会和听到的试音内容达到十分默契的地步，甚至清楚下一句是什么内容，这对增强自信心是有一定帮助的。只要信心有了，听力取得优异的成绩就又增加了些胜算。
