When the winter came the Grasshopper had no food and found itself cold and very hungry, while it saw the ants distributing every day corn and grain from the stores they had collected in the summer. “为了过冬用不着这么费劲吧?”蚱蚂说，“我们现在有大把的粮食”。蚂蚁没有听它的，而是继续辛苦地拖着粮食往回赶。冬天来了，蚱蚂没有粮食，都快要饿死了。 这时，蚱蚂看到蚂蚁们正分发他们在夏天时收集并储存起来的玉米和谷物。 Then the Grasshopper knew:It is best to prepare for the days of necessity. 蚱蚂明白了： 什么事都要提早做好准备，将来才有好的结果。

One summer's day, a grasshopper was hopping about in a field, chirping and singing to its heart's content.

夏日的一天，一只蚱蜢正在一块庄稼地上蹦来跳去，无忧无虑地唱着歌。

An ant passed by, bearing along with an ear ofcorn (玉米),he was taking it to the nest.

一只蚂蚁爬过,正地拖着一个玉米棒子，他是正要把玉米棒子拖回到蚂蚁巢里面去。

"Why not come and chat with me," said the grasshopper, "instead of toiling and moiling in that way?"

“不如过来跟我聊聊天吧，”蚱蜢说，“不用这样辛苦地工作吧？”

"I am helping to lay up food for the winter," said the ant, "andrecommend(建议)you to do thesame(相同的)."

“我正帮忙贮存过冬用的粮食，” 蚂蚁说，“我建议你也同样去贮存点粮食。”

"Why bother about winter?" said the grasshopper，"We have got plenty of food at present." But the ant went on its way and continued itstoil(辛苦).

“为什么要为冬天烦恼呢？”蚱蜢说，“我们现在有大把的粮食”。但蚂蚁没有听它的，而是继续辛苦地拖着粮食往回赶。

When the winter came the grasshopper had no food and founditself(它自己)dying of hunger - while it saw the ants distributing every day corn and grain from the stores they had collected in the summer.

当冬天来了，蚱蜢没有粮食，发现快要饿死它自己了。 这时，蚱蜢看到蚂蚁们正从备用品中分发他们在夏天收集的每日玉米跟谷物。

Then the grasshopper knew: It is best to prepare for days of need.

然后蚱蜢明白了： 什么事都要提早做好准备的好。

　　The ants were spending a fine winter’s day drying grain collected in the

summertime.

　　冬季，蚂蚁正忙着把潮湿的谷子晒干。

　　A Grasshopper, perishing with  famine, passed by and earnestly begged for a

little food.

　　饥饿的蚱蜢跑来，向他们乞讨食物。

　　The Ants inquired of him, “Why did you not treasure up food during the

summer?"

　　蚂蚁问他： “你为什么在夏天不去收集食物呢?”

　　He replied, “I had not  leisure enough. I passed the days in singing.”

　　蚱蜢回答说：“那时没有时间，我忙于唱美妙动听的歌。”

　　They then said in derision: “If you were foolish enough to sing all the

summer, you must dance supperless to bed in the winter.”

　　蚂蚁嘲笑说：“你夏季如要唱歌，那么冬季就去跳舞吧。”
