    Most people stick to a traditional path of going straight to college/office right after graduating high school, but recently it is becoming common to take a year off from school/office and pursue something different making people question whether the word "Gap Year" is a fair description(公正的描述).


    Gap Year
    A gap year, also known as a sabbatical year, is typically a year-long break, between high school and college/university. During the gap year a student normally travels or maintains some type or regular work.

    1. Why do people choose to take gap years? How is this different for people of different generations?
    • The people who choose to take a gap year may want an opportunity to travel, explore different interests, and gain experience and maturity before beginning college.

    • In old days, people ... nowadays...in the future.

    1. what are some common things people do on their gap years?

    Students who take gap years typically undergo a growth in maturity and are better prepared to benefit from higher education or decide the form of education they wish to pursue.

    Students can also take gap years after graduating from undergraduate study and before entry into graduate school. These students might take advanced courses in math or language studies, learn a trade, study art, volunteer, travel, take internships, play sports, or get involved in cultural exchanges.

    1. Are there some things that you can learn or experience in a gap year that you cannot in college/office? What are these and would it convince you(说服你) to take a gap year?
    • Hard work pays off.
    • Taking a notebook everywhere.
    • Pay attention to detail.
    • Enthusiasm is key.
    • But I still stick to go to college/high school.
