Music to hear， why hear’st thou music sadly?

你的音乐，为何它如此悲伤？

Sweets with sweets war not，joy delights in joy：

幸福不忌幸福，喜悦尤生喜悦：

Why lov’st thou that which thou receiv’st not gladly，

为何要爱你不爱的,

Or else receiv’st with pleasure thine annoy?

或接受惹你不快的？

If the true concord of well-tuned sounds，

若悦耳之声相配共调，

By unions married， do offend thine ear，

携手振荡真令你烦恼，

They do but sweetly chide thee， who confounds

它们不过委婉责备你，

In singleness the parts that thou shouldst bear.

不该以独奏取代合奏。

Mark how one string，sweet husband to another，

一根弦响，另一相随，

Strikes each in each by mutual ordering；

琴音相和，声声共鸣；

Resembling sire and child and happy mother，

宛如父亲、孩子与母亲，

Who， all in one， one pleasing note do sing：

他们融为一体，齐声欢唱。

Whose speechless song being many， seeming one，

这无言之歌，皆异曲同工，

Sings this to thee： ‘Thou single wilt prove none.’

对着你唱：‘你若独身则万事成空。’
