I've been chatting with my friends all over the world, discussing the rippling effects of the pandemic.

My husband has been negatively influenced since his salary has been cut down considerably which poses some threat to our family.

We have to be more frugal because we need to worry about the possibility that one day he or me will lose our job and become unemployeed for a really long time given the economic situation.

Since we have a son now, our living expenses have been increasing greatly. And I think it will be wiser for us if we live on budget, avoiding unnecessary expenses and regularly save money. Also I really need to enlarge my vocabulary bank, my oral fluency, my pronunciation and also my writing skills.

    ===================

    buyer's remorse

I’ve decided buying orange shoes was a bad move.

    something is a bad move

    Examples

A: I made a terrible decision buying this house. It’s in a bad location and it needs a lot of repairs. What was I thinking?

B: Sounds like buyer’s remorse, my friend. Relax. The repairs aren’t serious and it only takes five minutes to get to the train station.

    A: Lovely new car!

B: Thanks, but I’m feeling terrible buyer’s remorse right now. It was so expensive. What if I lose my job?

A: Why did I order lobster soup? Your potato soup was half the price, and it’s tastier.

B: I know the feeling – I always order the wrong thing and then get some serious buyer’s remorse. Let’s share.

    *I'm feeling terrible buyer's remorse

    cough up

    Examples

I waited two whole weeks for my new TV to be delivered. And then I had to cough up an extra £15 for the delivery! I can’t believe it.

My last trip to the library was expensive. I had to cough up for the fines for all the books I’d returned late. Whoops.

When I sat on my colleague’s glasses he asked me to cough up £100 to buy a new pair. Though I must admit, the new ones are an improvement.

    fib

Bad on the roads today, huh?

Why would you want to fib about that?

    Examples

Marty fibbed that he was going to study at his friend Lucio’s house, when in fact they went to see a movie.

While watching the horror scenes, Marty was so scared he had to close his eyes. But after the film he fibbed that he was not frightened at all.

Marty told Lucio that he knew the main actor from the movie, but that was just another fib. In fact Marty had just met the actor for five seconds and taken a quick selfie together.

    throw shade at sb

    Examples

Ece got really angry when she caught her friend throwing shade at her.

Hey! Don’t throw shade at my job! It may not pay well, but I enjoy it!

Joan never throws shade. She’s so chilled out.
