Researchers have discovered a new variant of the coronavirus, British Minister of Health Matt Hancock announced.
He said at least 60 self-governments across the country have registered more than 1000 cases of infection with the new variant of the coronavirus.
He noted that the rapid increase in the number of infected people in the south of England may be explained by a new kind of the virus.
"We have to take quick and decisive steps. We need to stop this deadly virus until the vaccine is available," Hancock said.
Speaking about the new variant, the Minister also added that most likely, the vaccine developed against COVID-19 will also be effective against it.
Hancock also says information about the new variant of the virus has already been provided to the World Health Organization.
