About passion

Our discussion made me think about my own passion. I asked myself following questions:

1. What is my passion?

I like anything that involves effective storytelling. Such as writing a short novel, the creation of visual arts ( painting or making movies) I enjoy using art as a medium to tell a story and hopefully convey my perspectives to a group of people who share similar thoughts.

2. Does passion always bring me joy? 

I suppose the answer is yes. 

If we look at the definition of passion:

a strong liking or desire for or devotion to some activity, object, or concept 

So it is safe to say a true passion does not confuse, cause pain, or deploy happiness, if one is engaged in passion related activities.

3. Then why am I in constant confusion, occasional fear, and mental stress?

I have conflicting ideals. On the one hand, I tend to follow the mainstream and occasionally question whether I should go to medical school or law school because everyone would agree they are well paid and highly respected jobs, which I found confusing.

Doctors deal with patients, aka sick people. Lawyers deal with sues, meaning conflicts and 

If doctors and lawyers are highly desirable in the society➡️ then flood of people rushing into medical and law school ➡️ then more patients and sue cases are needed ➡️ meaning we are shaping the world to have more unhealthy people and chaos situations.

People start to ignore their real passions because they are so busy with pursuing materials and fames. They want to be rich and famous and be envied. Problem is when this has become the single goal for everyone, the environment is highly competitive and toxic. People are stressed out, having mental issues, building bad relationships with others➡️ further leads to more patients and lawsuits, which is exactly what medical and law school students needed---even if they are not aware of it, they are part of it already. Everyone is creating this big issue altogether.

4. Does having painful thoughts mean I am not living with my passion?

I assume so. I too got dragged by materials and fame. It is hard not to when it is the only standard being used to measure success.

5. If having a true passion, do I still care if I will make achievements in the field? Or am I worried that I will fail?

I don't know. Maybe I should seriously go after my passion and see what happens.
