SIAL, an international food and drinks exhibition, has announced that Shenzhen-based Starfield will launch a series of pre-packaged plant-based meat snacks during its exhibition in Shanghai in mid-May.
This is the first time for the Chinese startup to launch its ready-to-eat snack. Previously it has always sought to parter up with insitutional clients for penetration.
Starfield's founder, Cross, said in a webinar sponsored by Dao Foods today that her company has sold into Decos, Hey Tea, Family Mart, among the notable retailers and caterers.
Founded in September, the company has so far raised four rounds of funds, which amounted at USD 20 million. Argueably this is the most successful comany in alternative meat.
It sources soy beans from Northeast China and Sichuan Province, as its main ingredient.
Cross says that as the company has expanded quickly, it find it challenging to cope with the fast growth by its organizational development.
"Within the next one to two years, creating consumer awareness for its products is still important,“ said Cross. Likewise, the company will continue to invest heavily in R&D,she added,
